Eda Lains is a gentle, kind woman with a haunting past. Horrified by the destruction and racism of the HLNA, her aim in life is to show love and acceptance to all beings on this new earth - human or not.

Abilities Edit

Eda has no metaphysical abilities, being purely human and unaffected by the Shift.

Skills Edit

Eda Lains is purely one hundred percent human, and so she has no form of magical power or ability. She is extremely nervous of anyone who does, being someone raised with a gun and who can wield it well. Magical ability, to her, is seen as a strange unnatural thing, and though she will not eschew anyone merely because they have the ability to say, throw fire bolts from her hands, she is uneasy about them having some mystical advantage. Eda, though not magically gifted, is extremely skilled with a gun, having graduated from the military and moving into the HLNA. Her skills are dexterous and she wields a gun with certainty, feeling completely at ease with it.

Appearance Edit

Eda Lains is a beautiful human woman of twenty three, though if you were to ask her, she would deny any allegations of beauty and blush profusely, before beginning to compliment you instead. Her fiery red hair is an eye turning characteristic, making her stand out amongst the crowd, though her hair is usually pulled back into a sloppy ponytail. She will often forget to brush her hair, so her hair is often messy, but none the less, looks stylish and laid back. It seems her beauty is incongruous with her line of work, but her heart shaped face and charming smile often cheer whoever is looking at her.

There is however an almost scared look in her brown eyes, and she will often fidget before you with her slender hands, if she is not entirely comfortable in her present situation. She can often hold her own amongst men, stature wise, for although she is slender and well proportioned, feminine, at 63kg, and standing tall at 5'11". She refuses to blemish her body with any tattoos or piercings, though she does have her earlobes pierced, and one cartilage piercing in her upper right ear, from a rebellious period in high school. At work, she wears a baggy khaki suit with pockets for all her equipments, but off work, she will usually wear plain denim jeans, a tshirt and a cardigan. Purple is her favourite colour, and one can usually find her wearing her favourite purple bracelet of her mother's.

Personal Belongings Edit

Eda always carries around her gun, her Bushranger ACR. In addition to the rifle, she uses a hand gun of the MEU(SOC) pistol, the M-45 MEUSOC, which she carries around in her satchel. Eda also always has a side satchel, with a cardigan, her wallet, her phone and a small dagger (which she doesn't really know how to use, but carries anyway). Her logic is that she never knows what the HLNA will do, so who knows when she'll need to run?

Personality Edit

Eda is at the utmost a benevolent soul. She finds it that her true purpose in life is to champion justice and equality, spurn discrimination and quash racism. Eda, once a member of the HLNA, which she joined with belief and hope for its aims - hoping it to wish to work with other races in order to reach an understanding - is now horrified daily at the rivalry and distrust within each human and nonhuman, everyone hostile against one another. She wishes this all to disappear, for everyone to kilter out again into a balance of harmony, where they can share this new world. As a result, after leaving the HLNA in horror at its terrible treatment of non-humans, she works at the Dawning Star Clinic - a hospital which treats of all races - as a security guard, in an attempt to make a small statement in favour of equality. Slowly, she hopes to progress in the world and show more and more people how they must act together. There is no doubt a lot of this love comes from her upbringing as a Christian, whereby she was told to love ones neighbour as herself, and although her faith has disappated in the wake of anger at the God who sat by and let this happen, this love for her fellow beings remains.

Ex military, Eda is focused on whatever task she needs to do - whether this be taking out the trash or defending a patient with her life. She views her work as essential, and does not take it lightly. This goes for her personal relationships, too. Once her friend becomes her friend, she is devoted and loyal to them to the end. Eda is a great friend to have, being loving and compassionate. However, she is very nervous in new social situations, jittery and awkward, smiling and laughing excessively, or extremely quiet. This can often put people off, which sends her into a depression at her uselessness and unwantedness. Eda has extremely low self esteem, and berates herself for imagined failings. This can be tough on close friends, who might find it their duty to attempt to make Eda see the best in herself - attempts which inevitably fail.

Eda overall is a soul with good intentions, one who wants to care and look after others - and she ultimately wants someone to care and look after her, despite her not feeling that she deserves it. All races are accepted by her, despite her clouded history, and she does her best to make up for the time she wasted in the xenophobic HLNA.

Eda is excessively clumsy, and it is a wonder that she hasn't blown off her own foot yet. She also finds technology difficult, having problems texting and using the internet.

Eda likes her guns, beer, justice, the sunshine and equality. She most certainly does not appreciate discrimination, killing, God, being dirty and being cold.

Her strengths include: 1) She is driven for righteousness, believing in equality and justice. She champions these causes, as she believes that these are the only ways the world can heal and move on for the better. She hates anything to do with racism or discrimination, and tries to avoid it at all costs, also helping those being persecuted. 2) Eda has a hard working ethic. Though she seems to be soft and gentle, and in personality she is that, she is also very focused on what work she chooses to undertake. She views her work as a responsibility by which much hinges on its success. She will never do anything halfheartedly, throwing her whole self into what work she undertakes. 3) Eda is a great listener, and a great friend. She makes a conscious effort to be kind and to listen to other people's problems. She will be there for a person whenever they need her, even if it is at 3am in the morning. Eda believes that if a person has gotten the courage to talk to her about their issues, it becomes her problem too, and to refuse to help them would be inherently wrong.

Her weaknesses include: 1) Eda can be exceptionally trusting, which leaves her open for manipulation a lot of the time. This, essentially, comes from a desire to see the best in everyone - an admirable quality - but she has not quite grasped the fact that the best in everybody is not what is always present. 2) For a member of a security squad, and an ex HLNA member who worked on the front lines against zombies in Columbus, Ohio, she is remarkably afraid of blood and does not like the thought of causing anyone pain except in the direst of circumstances. She hates thinking that she has killed anyone, and ultimately leaves that til last unless someone gives her no other option. Working in a hospital, she can't be around the more violently wounded patients without feeling queasy. Sometimes, this hesitance to shoot can be a compassionate and caring things, but other times, it is a definite issue. 3) Despite caring for others exceptionally, Eda has a hard time caring for herself. When she looks out at the world and sees much better people than she, she is extremely down on herself and cannot think herself wanted or useful to anyone. Her self esteem is ridiculously low, and she will always refute any compliments given to her in any form. She does not believe herself special enough to recieve any loving treatment, and so dedicates herself to the protection of others. She will not let anyone protect her, though, emotionally or physically. She doesn't think she deserves it - even though it is what she wants most in the world.

Before the shift, Eda was raised a Church of Christ Christian. She was dedicated to her faith, but as she grew older, her faith waned. Her faith in God was destroyed completely after the Shift, though she does not deny his existence. She believes that God exists, that he is influencial and still has a hand in her life, but she is angry at him for letting the world be wrenched apart in such a violent manner.

History Edit

Eda Lains was born to Sophie and Lars Lains at 3am in the morning, the eighth of January, 1991. Her birth was a quiet occurance, despite the late hour, and there was very little fanfare towards it. She was simply another baby born, another baby added to the population of Nashville, no one special. Just a little baby with the beginnings of fuzzy, vibrant red hair and blinking brown eyes. And yet, despite the seeming ordinariness of her birth, she was everything to Sophie and Lars. She was their first child, and became their little princess. Their world revolved around her, as she would be their only child. Two years after Eda was born, Sophie was diagnosed with the beginnings of cervical cancer. She was saved, but only by a radical hysterectomy. Eda would be her parents only child, and they loved her all the more to make up for this.

Growing up, she was a quiet child. Throughout her baby stages, she did not cry through the night. Nor was she a ball of destructive energy throughout her toddler years. She was a simple, quiet girl, who was excessively thoughtful and seemed to have a slight obsession with ponies. She was a joy to be around (unless you took away one of her pony dolls) but she was never particularly close to anyone at school, growing up. Eda was a kind but lonely child. She attended church, and Sunday School, throughout her youth, her parents devout Christians, and she too adopted this ideology with little complaint or fuss. Her faith never wavered - she simply acknowledged the Lord her God as her Father, and loved him more than anything. She always wanted to live her life for him as best as she could. It showed in her loving and understanding attitude. She met her one close friend at her church, her closest friend, and the boy she would grow to love - Adam Hayes.

Adam and her went to different high schools, but stayed at the same church throughout their childhood. Both had problems fitting into their schools and their peer groups. To them, both dedicated Christians, they despaired of and couldn't quite connect with the materialistic superficial people of their age group. They couldn't understand this desire to whore themselves out, to get drunk, to wear tight slutty clothing. This confusion drew them closer together, until they were seeing eachother nearly every day and were eachother's confidants. They were each other's date to their Senior Proms, and, as cliche as it was (though Adam probably planned it that way), they shared their first kiss on Eda's porch on the night of their graduation.

Eda had long known what she wanted to do with her life, for she shared the same ambition as her now boyfriend's - to join the military to fight for her country. Adam had wanted to join since he was six years old, and her being devoted as she was, formed this same view. However, over the years, she rationalised the decision with her own opinions: she loved her country, and the people within it. She wanted to bring a godly influence to the United States Military. She wanted to protect the men and women on the front line, though she flinched at the thought of killing anyone. She ultimately wanted to bring a protective vibe to the military, not a destructive one. So, upon graduating, Eda and her boyfriend Adam joined the military for their country - into the Marines, despite their parents worries.

Eda and Adam trained hard and were rewarded for this. Both of them seemed to understand the dangers involved in being first in and last out, which honed their mind into a razor sharp reaction speed. Eda was excessively skilled with the ACR assault rifle, whereas Adam seemed to be more skilled in tactics and heavy artillery. None the less, both were extremely successful within training, and went on many missions together from the time their training ended in 2009. Eda and Adam were in the military for a long period, on several missions together and apart, even until the Shift. In November 2012, Eda returned home from deportment alone, back to Nashville, only to find Adam waiting on one knee in the airport, asking her to become his wife. She said yes. How could she not?

But then, on December the 21st, the Shift happened. Horror and change overwhelmed the world, with new forms walking the world every day. For months, Eda and Adam did not go to work, choosing to stay with their families and Adam's parents - they could not stay with Eda's parents, however, for they were in Chicago and stuck there, as the airlines and government had froze, as had the military. Everything was crumbling within the reaction to the Shift, to the Meta Humans, the Zombies, the dragons. Fairy tales brought to life. Eda and Adam were not affected, though many of their friends were. The world was changing. Adam seemed hardpressed to accept the change of his friends, but he was influenced by Eda, who knew that there was nothing to do for this. They could not fix this. They had to accept it and accept that these new races and magics and life were for the best. Adam stayed strong in his faith, which he clung to like a lifeline, but Eda could only pretend to pray. Eda, although the more accepting of the two, was also the more angry at God for letting this happen. Although she still believed in his presence, she could not forgive him, and began to hate him.

And then, when she thought she could get used to this, the news came that Chicago was nuked, after an overrush of zombies. Her parents were there. They perished in the fiery destruction of this new world. Adam tried to do what he could, but Eda, Eda was catatonic. She shook, she could not sleep, she couldn't do anything but think that her mother was never going to see her wedding dress, her father was not going to walk her down the aisle. Superficial thoughts, but they were gone. In a fit of rage, one night, Eda sat up in bed and ran through to the next room, shaking Adam awake. She convinced him to join the HLNA, to do something about the zombies, and the new races - to reach an understanding. No more cities could be nuked. No more - human or otherwise - could die.

So, Eda and Adam joined the HLNA, both hoping that this would lead the world to a better future. It didn't. Human greed and prejudice got in the way. But they had joined now, they had enlisted. They could not get away from the horrors that the HLNA were perpertrating. They worked there from March 2013, and though they both disliked the work they were doing, they kept at it. They couldn't leave - who knows what the xenophobic corporation might do? Because of their military expertise, in April, they were sent to Texas to keep the sudden Vampire swarm at bay. She fought against them on the streets, and due to her expertise, she often beat them back time and time again. And when she missed one, Adam was there to catch her back. She hated watching the expressions on their faces as they died, their decapitated head lolling on the ground. This was not what they signed up for.

But on the very night she resolved to talk to Adam about leaving, escaping, he was bitten. He was infected by a vampire. She screamed in horror, watching the teeth sink into his bloodstream, and decapitated the vampire. But it was too late, another member had seen. Adam was dragged off, in pain, to the headquarters in Texas, Eda brought along too, sobbing, trying to get someone to go and fetch the cure. No one would move - she could not understand why?! Until they placed him into a room behind a glass wall, Eda held tight by two burly men, forced to watch. They strapped him to a chair, and a man with a long, elegant katana came in - too elegant to be real. With a slow stroke, that to Eda seemed to last an age, he swung the sword towards Adam's head. His eyes locked with Eda's horrified ones, and he began to mouth something, but it was too late. His head rolled onto the floor. Eda screamed, one long scream, and punched the two guards in the nose, before turning and running away. They let her go - for now.

She escaped Texas, and made her away across the desolate America. She had nothing left. No parents, her fiancee was dead. The only place she could think of was NYC, where it wasn't ruled by any one group, not the HLNA or anything else. No, she needed to go somewhere she had never been. To forget about Adam, Sophie, Lars. Her entire past. To begin again, alone and new. She was determined to be the opposite of what the HLNA were, but she could only champion the nonhuman's rights silently, in case she were targeted. Upon arrival in NYC, in September 2013, she heard of an ad for a job. A role in the security department of the Dawning Star Clinic. She applied immediately. Her new life began, protecting the injured patients of all races in the once beautiful city of the United States of America.
