The Post Shift World
The Return of the Supernatural

On December 21st, 2012, around midnight EST, the world experienced the Great Shift of the Ages. The stuff of dreams and mythology, of magic and the impossible returned to Earth after a period of thousands of years. While it is not understood by the masses of mankind as the esoteric knowledge of the shift has been hidden for so long by the Order of Ulrich, it is known to the ancient order of Magus that this Shift is one of many in which magic and the supernatural either returns to or is removed from Earth.
The Great ShiftEdit
The Mayan Calendar, The Yuga Cycle of India, and Plato's great year were among the systems developed in order to track this extensive cycle of time. While this is cloistered knowledge as to which calendar was right, the Mayan seems to be the one that is closest out of all.
Responsible for the Great Shift of 2012 is a beam of energy that is not quite understood even by the most brilliant of scientific minds, that emanated from the heart of our galaxy and struck not only earth, but many planets in its path. (See Aliens for more information on the visitors from other worlds that have been brought to Earth upon this beam of energy).
The last great shift happened about ten thousand years prior to the one in 2012, yet this knowledge is exclusive to the Order of Ulrich that was founded just prior to the end of the last Age of Magic.
The periods between Ages of Magic is referred as "The Age of Darkness" by the Order. Again, this is very obscure knowledge. The term: Age of Light is in reference to magic's return to the world, hence revealing the true potential of the universe to all.
The VeilEdit
The Veil is the 'containing fabric' that for the ten or so thousand years, served as the divide between the Realm of Magic and the Earthly Plane. Now, that 'wall' is breached, and the two worlds are once again slowly becoming one. No one but the Atlanteans and the Order of Ulrich can really understand how long this will take, and the best estimates by either group is that the two worlds will once again merge within the next hundred years.
The Two UniversesEdit
Along side the mundane lies a universe that is of magic. The Veil separates the two. The two universes are tied together in a cosmic marriage of sorts, and can never be separated. Every ten to twelve thousand years the two universes, that are resonating at very similar frequencies yet are not exactly timed, move into phase with one another, and merge to become completely harmonized with one another. Due to the slight variance in frequency, it is inevitable that these two universes will de-harmonize and de-synch with one another, pulling the two apart. This apparent cycle is called the Great Shift of Ages.
The Dark Sun and ShardsEdit
When the two universes have harmonic convergence, this causes a reaction in the core of every galaxy. Energy bursts forth from the center of the galaxy; this center was termed the "Dark Sun" by the Mayans.
The energy itself carries with it matter from the heart of the galaxy. It is this matter along with the energy the galaxy now radiates that is responsible for the sudden genetic expressions within Meta Humans, Meta Animals and to an extent, the super Viruses. These bits of matter are called Dark Sun Shards.
The strike hit the center of Africa (Congo, Cameroon and Central African Republic areas were mostly affected), and decimated most of the continent. Now what remains is a nearly thousand mile wide crater of soot colored blackness instead of the lush jungles that were there before.
Dark Sun ShardsEdit
This is a black colored, semi solid state of matter that has been ejected from the very heart of the Milky Way Galaxy itself. This matter is unlike any scientists have seen so far, and is highly 'radioactive' in that it can cause burns to organic matter from close range. Long term exposure to this 'radiation' can cause mutations similar to Meta Humans, sudden expression or even removal of abilities, insanity, coma, and death. The effects are completely random and seem to depend on the individual they are afflicting.
Certain corporations and groups have taken it upon themselves to not only study, but also to experiment upon the Dark Shards.
Alien WorldsEdit
Some were destroyed by the beam that brought their residents to earth from distant worlds. Some experienced the same 'cosmic shuffling of the cards' in that inhabitants from other worlds and perhaps even Earth were brought to them much like others were brought to Earth. At any rate, Science is very limited in that there is no way to really communicate with the other worlds, and Earth magic seems to (for now) remain completely 'local' to Earth.
Time Line of EventsEdit
December 21st 2012 till January 1st 2013Edit
The world is in utter chaos. Riots fill the streets. the suffering of humanity as well as nature is great.
Millions upon millions of refugees flee from Africa, where the 'strike' from the Galactic center devastated the land and brought demons, otherworldly beings and all sorts of trouble along with it. The strike also made most of the continent barren. The coastal areas of South Africa and the 'horn' area (Somalia) and Madagascar were spared this fate and soon became overcrowded with the masses of refugees fleeing the sand crawler infested interior.
Very little is documented by the mainstream media from these times which was completely debilitated along with most of the world's governments. This was the reason most of the governments collapsed around the world, save Great Britain and China. Most of the accounts from this time are eyewitness interviews much later than the events and home videos from around the world.
Meta humans, Demons and aliens ran the streets unchecked, and the good perished along with the wicked.
Nearly 1/4 of the world's population was wiped out, mostly due to the strike against the continent of Africa, but also due to the violence that whipped out of control at this time.
Atlantis rises from the sea, but it is not discovered by scientists till late February.
The entire population of Australia falls asleep for three months in the re-emergence (and literal version) of the Dreaming.The southern continent has become vastly populated by Aboriginal creatures in the form of meta humans. Seven in ten Australians are meta human, making the continent the most dense grouping of metas.
Jan 1st through Feb 1st, 2013Edit
New Leaders emerge. People begin to assert themselves and organize into the beginnings of new governments and the various factions.
The Order of Ulrich takes over the cities of the Vatican and Washington DC. Their attempt to take London, the third world wide city of power is thwarted by Abraxas, the re-manifested Aeon in the form of a great serpent-dragon. Abraxas rules London and the UK with an iron fist, and his 'subjects' are little more than modern serfs with heavy taxes. A great amount of people escaped the UK in these early days, yet recently the borders have been 'sealed'.
Instead, the OU has taken Paris, and has been plotting since to take London somehow.
Chicago is nuked by a desperate and toppling United States in response to the threat of the z-virus.
Feb 1st through March 1st, 2013Edit
Vampires plague Mexico City, and the government collapses. The Great Famine begins.
The continent of Atlantis is 'discovered' by scientists after the world satellite grid comes back online.
The zombie populations begin to dwindle to half, as the z-virus is a necrotic virus and slowly kills its victims.
March 1st through April 1st, 2013Edit
The remnants of the European Union Collapses under the pressure from the Germanic Kingdom of the Elves. This causes a cascading effect wherein the remnants of the United States breaks into the ESU (Eastern Seaboard Union), the CWAS (Confederation of Western American States), and The Republic of Gulf and Southern States (RGSS). There are no more federal governmental organizations on the North American Continent.
Most of Arizona and New Mexico are now lost to a new type of illegal immigrant - vampires.
The United Nations, and other intergovernmental organizations (WHO, UNICEF, IMF, World Bank, Interpol, etc) are disbanded or collapse all together.
The people of Australia finally awaken to a vastly changed world.
The ESU becomes the first government to attempt to track the Aliens and Meta Human populations by creating the Meta Human and Alien Naturalization Services (MHANS).
April 1st through May 1st, 2013Edit
The newly formed and secretive Vampire Kingdom expands from New Mexico and Mexico into Texas. Outside the physical borders, the Kingdom begins to infiltrate the established governmental and corporate powers in an attempt to weasel control from them. The goal is world domination behind an invisible curtain of puppet governments and organizations. The public is vastly unaware of this plot.
The Republic of Texas - finally independent of the United States after nearly 200 years, succumbs to the blight of the vampires by mid May. The nation state splits in half, and is now keeping the vampire swarms at bay with the help of the well funded HLNA (Humanity League of North America, see Factions.).
His Majesty, King of the Undead (Vampire Kingdom), Lazarus Antiochus Demeroux, declares war with the HLNA
The Zombie blight of the Mid West is nearly eradicated by both the efforts of the OU, and by the nature of the virus itself. Those that 'survive' (if it can be called that) are kept that way by magical means only.
May 1st through June 1st, 2013Edit
The United Kingdom is shut off from the rest of the world by Abraxas. How he accomplishes this is by having his multitude of dragon spawn minions from across the veil patrol the borders nearly constantly. The rush of escapees lessens to a trickle.
June 1st through July 1st, 2013Edit
Russians are stunned by the increasing amount of people in the steppes that are suffering Yeti attacks. The people there and on down to Mongolia live in constant fear of these terrible creatures. Survival looks slim unless they get outside help. The remnants of the Russian and Mongolian governments have tried without much success to rescue these poor people.[/list]
July 1st through August 1st, 2013Edit
July 26th: Nehemiah Gold opens the 'Golden Paradise Resort' on the Island of Atlantis, turning the formerly "lost" continent into a major tourist attraction.
August 1st through September 1st, 2013Edit
August 5th- Zombie invasion in New York City. It is widely suspected that the Order of Ulrich failed to defend the city. In lesser spheres, foul play is suspected. HLNA begins to have a stronger presence in the city. Over 25,000 casualties.
September 1st through October 1st, 2013Edit
September 15th: This date marks the first sighting of a new life form classified as 'homo-mortius-eukaryius-sapien'. Essentially, the combination of plant and Zombie, these semi-intelligent monstrosities are referred to more commonly as Ghouls. Their threat ignored, these creatures will continue to propagate, spawning a new dawn of the walking dead.
September 15th: On this date, besides the discovery of a new malicious species, a Fragment left over from one of the Galactic Shifts is discovered and placed in the possession of the faction, Gnosis. Referred to as a 'Dark Sun Shard', it's power is yet to be tapped and it's full potential discovered. Only the Atlanteans and the Order of Ulrich are apprised of these powerful remnants.

November 5th: A gateway to Hell is located in a hidden temple on the island of Atlantis. The Grace Foundation does battle against a group of demons in order to prevent them from opening the gate, which would have released Hell on Earth.
November 30th: The Underground raids the Hilary Institute's New York office. A massive whole is blown in the side of the building, and a high-speed police chase follows the Underground terrorists back to the gate of their subterranean kingdom.
November 30th to December 1st: An altercation between the Underground and The Hilary Institute is spurred by the abduction of the Queen and Heiress of the subterranean kingdom. This event eventually leads to an alliance between the two factions.

January 7th: A metahuman rally meant for peace turns into a bloody massacre, set off by a bomb explosion that caused many Grace Foundation (now Gnosis) and NYPD injuries. Public speculation blames the HLNA for the attack.
January 8th: A major police showdown occurs when the Underground takes a group of hostages at a retail establishment in downtown New York.
February 1st through March 1st, 2014Edit
February 8th: A gang war between Boston's Murphy Gang and New York's Club Republica comes to a head when the rival gangs clash in a massive fight at a wedding in Boston.
February 19th: Three dragons attack different parts of New York. Multiple factions come together to drive off the reptilian terrors.
March 1st through April 1st, 2014Edit
March 3rd: The Underground performs a raid on the HLNA compound in New York. A fierce battle ensues, though reports on the purpose behind the raid are sketchy at best.
April 1st through May 1st, 2014Edit
April 28th: The Hilary Institute and Grace Foundation face off against a Demon Prince, working together to protect a shipment of priceless magical artifacts.
May 1st through June 1st, 2014Edit
Food riots begin in Asia, and whatever provisionary governments there are in India and Burma have been overthrown (again). The avatar of Brahman, Krishna, is also rumored to have returned.

July 28th, 2014 - Through some unidentified magic, Aamon Foraii Dukushu, King of the Underground, creates a hundred duplicates of himself. They rampage throughout New York city, killing dozens of police officers and HLNA agents, and causing massive chaos before they are finally stopped. Some are gunned down, others arrested, but within an hour of the event starting, the magic fades and all the duplicates die.
